Many visitors to this site are in a position where they are about to finish their university studies, or have recently graduated. Often there will be more study and hard work ahead of them before they can start living their future lives as teachers of English in exotic and far-flung destinations. Depending on the standards of prospective employers, aspiring teachers will need to complete language-teaching certificates or diplomas, and would do well to brush up on college-level French or German, or perhaps start learning the language of the country they are hoping to move to. Sometimes it all just makes you want to go a mile up into the air in a plane and come back down in a tandem skydive.
A lot of older people, even the ones who have been through the educational mill, often think that study is a 'soft option', and that students don't go through nearly as much day-to-day stress as full-time workers do. Most students would beg to differ! To reward yourself for years of hard work, and finally getting your hands on that certificate, why don't you treat yourself to a Porsche experience? Of course, it's unlikely that you'll be able to afford a luxury car any time in the next few years, especially if you plan to spend most of your time and wages on cocktails made in beach bars, but it doesn't mean that you can't have a taste of the sweet life now. A quick phone call and not too much monetary investment could give you a few hours to drive an Aston Martin, and finally make that 007 dream a reality.
This is possibly one of the only periods of your life where you will be able to look back and use the excuse of 'youthful exuberance', so go ahead and do what you want for a change. If your big desire is to drive a Lotus before you don your cap and gown, then it's within your grasp. The photo of you in the driver's seat can sit in place next to your graduation portrait. If you're a little bit nervous about heading out into that big wide world on your own when you land that fantasy teaching job, get a taste for the heart-pounding adrenaline by booking a tyre-screaming Ferrari experience. Not only will you have a great story to tell your old and new friends alike, but you'll have something to use as a comparison for the nerves when you step off the plane in a foreign country. See, it's not so scary! |
